FWA Site of the Month – July 2007
With these eight short films, HBO essentially blew the walls off an apartment building, exposing the private dramas that go on behind a building’s thin façade. Separated by only a few feet in physical space, emotional polar opposites are coinciding at any given time. Lust and pleasure in 3A, disgust and fear in 2B, despair in 1A, boredom in 4A: The gamut of human emotions are here all compressed into a brick and mortar box.
The screening of these films against an actual building in New York City rendered every passerby on the street an instant voyeur. Suddenly, walking down the street, people witnessed a domestic fight, a kinky poker game, a tension-filled dinner party. This site brought the power of the experience and the voyeuristic sensation of walking along Ludlow Street to people who cannot make it to the live event.
